LIBRARY Gene therapy. Artwork of gene therapy depicted as a syringe beside a molecule of DNA (deoxyribonucl- eic acid). In gene therapy, damaged or missing sections of DNA (genes) are replaced with healthy ones to correct inherited genetic disorders. This is done by inserting the desired gene into a virus before injecting it into the body. The virus then "infects" body cells, inserting its own DNA, which includes the healthy gene, into that of the cell.
