Cancer research: light micrograph showing the microinjection of a single cell, a technique of introducing foreign or increased amounts of DNA into the cell nucleus. A single cell is immobilised by using a type of suction probe whilst a second, finer probe (visible here to the right) is used to penetrate the nucleus and manipulate or introduce fragments of nuclear material. This image was made in the laboratory of Prof. Stehelin at the Pasteur Institute, Paris, a scientist noted for research on oncogenes - cancer-inducing genes.
