Human Genome project. Close-up of test tubes containing samples of cells from the gene bank of the Genethon laboratory which is located near Paris. They are stored in liquid nitrogen at a very low temperature, -196 Celsius. Each test tube contains about 1,000,000 cells. They were taken from patients affected by genetic diseases and will be studied in order to find the genes responsible for these disorders. The Human Genome project involves several laboratories around the world and it is aimed at mapping the DNA of every chromosome in order to develop a genetic therapy for a number of inherited disorders.
