Human Genome project. Researcher at the Genethon laboratory near Paris holding DNA samples which are contained in a new medium developed for storing fragments of DNA. It is known as megaYAC and consists of a huge artificial yeast chromosome. A single megaYAC stores up to 1.4 million fragments of DNA, 35 times more than the amount that may be stored in bacteria, the conventional way to store DNA. Genethon, together with other laboratories around the world, participates in the Human Genome project. It is aimed at mapping the DNA of every chromosome in order to find the genes responsible for a number of inherited disorders.
