Caption

Gene bank of centenarians. A technician removes frozen samples of blood containing the DNA of centenarians (people aged over 100). These samples were collected for Project Chronos, a study on human aging at the Centre d'Etude du Polymorphisme Humain (CEPH) in Paris. Project Chronos involves mapping the genes of people who have reached extreme old age, to understand the genetic process of aging. Project Chronos has discovered genes linked to human aging. Human genes are also responsible for genetic diseases which shorten lifespan. Research on aging may offer gene therapies to improve old age and prolong life.
