DNA sequencing. Female technician studying the banded DNA sequences or genetic fingerprints of an autoradiogram. There is also a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequence on the computer monitor. Each of the bands represents one of four chemical bases called nucleotides. The genetic code is formed by the sequence of these bases. The autoradiogram was produced by placing a radiographic film on a gel containing fragments of radioactively-tagged DNA. DNA sequencing is used in forensic science and medical research.
