DNA research. Technician placing samples of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) into a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machine. PCR is a technique by which small amounts of DNA are amplified using a bacterial DNA-copying enzyme. The PCR machine repeatedly heats samples to temperatures at which the amplification reactions can proceed. Photographed at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine, Naples, Italy.
