DNA analysis. Computer artwork of a fingerprint with an autoradiogram, representing an individual identified by DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) analysis. An autoradiogram is produced during DNA analysis. The bands (black) of the autoradiogram correspond to the four nucleotide bases which make up a genetic sequence. Every individual, with the exception of identical twins, has a different genetic sequence. This genetic difference is evident in fingerprints, which due to developmental factors are unique even for identical twins. DNA analysis is used in forensic science, medicine and paternity studies.
