DNA autoradiogram. Conceptual computer artwork resembling the pattern created in a DNA autoradiogram. An autoradiogram, also known as a genetic fingerprint, consists of several columns of bands (light blue) which show a specific sequence of nucleotides. A nucleotide is the basic unit of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), a long molecule that codes for an individual's genes. Each person has their own unique sequence of nucleotides, so the pattern of bands in the autoradiogram is different for each individual.
