DNA analysis. Researcher using a magnifying glass to study a DNA sequence produced using gel electrophoresis techniques. Gel electrophoresis is the separation of Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), Ribonucleic acid (RNA), and protein using an electric charge and is used mainly for analytical purposes. Electrophoresis is the process whereby an electromotive force is used to push or pull the moloecules through the gelby applying an electric current to the molecules. The molecules move through the gel at different rates and are made visual by applying a dye to the gel.
