Chromosome analysis. Geneticist analysing human chromosomes using FISH (fluorescence in-situ hybridisation), a technique that highlights a particular gene or chromosome to check for abnormalities. The geneticist is finding out if his irradiated (exposed to radiation) samples have any chromosomal abnormalities, such as pieces that have broken off one chromosome and attached themselves to another. Chromosomes contain genes, which are lengths of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) that control specific functions in an organism.
