Algal ponds growing blue-green algae, Spirulina sp., near Bangphok, Thailand. The algae are grown on a small scale and harvested using a simple sieve system (background) to drain off the water. They are used for producing food dyes or dried and used as a protein-rich health food. Pigments exctracted from Spirulina are also used as a stain in immunology.
