Seed biotechnology. Mixture of vegetable seeds with coloured coatings arranged in rows. The coating is applied to the seeds for commercial culture to protect them between planting and germination. The coating protects the seeds from insects, mould or fungus, and consists of an insecticide or fungicide incorporated into an inert matrix. The matrix is stable, allowing the seeds to lie dormant in the ground for some time. The size of the seed is regulated producing a uniform size for automatic sowing machinery.
