Toxins research. Comparing four petri dishes of cell cultures exposed to toxic materials. The purple spots are areas where cells cultures have grown. This toxin kills cells. The contol petri dish (left) has plenty of cell cultures (purple areas), but the increasing amount of toxin to the right has killed the cells. Photographed in the Health and Pollutants Laboratory of the INRS (the French National Institute of Research and Safety), Nancy, France. Tests are carried out here to establish the toxicity and cancer-causing properties of different materials, chemicals and pollutants.
