Shellfish toxicity research. Researchers working in a laboratory to test for the presence of toxins in shellfish such as mussels and oysters. These can be contaminated by algae, some of which can produce harmful toxins that can poison humans. Effects range from diarrhoea to paralysis by neurotoxins.
