Scientists measuring blood samples. Biologists measuring copper levels in blood plasma. Copper is an important trace element, vital for a healthy nervous system and heart. These scientists are researching the way copper is metabolised and stored by the body. Levels of copper in the blood plasma are measured using thermal ionisation mass spectrometry, which tracks stable isotopes of the element.
