Biological control research. Technician using a pin inoculator to test strains of Bacillus thuringiensis. This bacteria infects and kills many species of fly, moth, mosquito and beetle, and has been used to control pests biologically for decades. Some strains of the bacteria are more effective than others, and this research is attempting to identify the causes of this difference. This research was performed for the United States Department of Agriculture at the Insect Biocontrol Laboratory, Beltsville, Maryland, USA.
