Mosquito research. Masked researcher inspects "live" infectious mosquitoes in containers in a laboratory. He is observing the way mosquitoes feed and thus pick up and transmit infectious disease. Both the Anopheles mosquito responsible for transmitting malaria, and the Aedes mosquito which spreads yellow fever are research subjects here. Understanding the lifestyle of mosquitoes and their parasites enables the design of more effective control measures against mosquitoes. New research on malaria and yellow fever may also lead to the development of vaccines. Photographed at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France.
