Experimental animal. Infant rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) deprived of its mother. This is part of a series of experiments performed in the 1950s by Harry Harlow of the University of Wisconsin, USA. Harlow studied the effects of separating infant monkeys from their mothers. He showed that maternal care was necessary for normal psychological development.
