Honeybee research. Researcher making observations at an experimental hive of honeybees (Apis mellifera). Some of the bees are labelled with coloured and numbered tags (red and blue). A grid has been superimposed on the glass window of the hive to make it easier for the researcher to record the bees' behaviour. Honeybees are economically important as pollinators of many of the world's crops. A colony may contain many tens of thousands of bees. Photographed at the University of Wurzburg, Germany.
