Animal behaviour experiment. Pigeon successfully obtaining food from a Skinner box. The pigeon must peck the lighted disk (of three, upper right) ten times in a row to be rewarded with food. Pigeons were used by psychologist Burrhus Skinner (1904- 1990), who worked at Harvard University, USA. He used them to study stimulus-response behaviour, as pigeons can perform a wider variety of tasks and also have a longer lifespan than rats.
