Tortoise research. Researcher using calipers to measure a Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) as part of a programme to expand the wild population. These tortoises are the only indigenous tortoises in France. They are endangered, and are now only found in Corsica and the Centre Var region. Their numbers have declined due to forest fires and being collected to be sold as pets. They are protected by international laws. Since 1990, several have been released here on Levant Island, a small French island off France's Mediterranean Sea coast.
Model release available. Property release not required.
