Microalgae research. Scientist Jean Turquet collecting a sample of Halimeda seaweed (Halimeda sp.) for analysis in a laboratory. The surface of the seaweed will be studied to establish which species of microalgae are present on its surface. Some species of microalgae, particularly Gambierdiscus toxicus, contain a harmful toxin which accumulates in the food chain and can cause food poisoning in humans. Photographed in the Glorious Islands in the Indian Ocean.
