Human neural progenitor cells in a culture medium, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Neural progenitor cells are between stem cells and fully differentiated cells. They can not, like stem cells, develop into any cell (multipotentency) but may develop into different sorts of neural cell (neurons, astrocytes or oligodendrocytes). Magnification: x1250 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
