False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the sticky surface of a 3M "Post-it" sticker, showing the resin spheres containing glue embedded in the paper. The spheres, between 15 & 40 micrometres in diameter, are made from urea formaldehyde resin, which ruptures easily under finger pressure. Each time the notepaper, with its sticky strip, is pressed to a surface a few spheres burst & release a film of glue. The stickers, which are made in a number of sizes by the 3M company, can therefore be reused many times, until finally all the spheres of glue have been used up. Burst spheres appear flattened. Magnification: X 85 at 35mm size. Coloured yellow. Original is BW print H100/079.
