Russian dolls. This array of wooden dolls forms a set. They are carefully crafted to fit inside each other, with the smallest fitting inside the next largest and so on, until they all fit inside the largest doll (upper right). These are also called nesting dolls or matryoshka. The latter word comes from the Russian, and the first nesting dolls were made in Russia from around 1890.
