Prawns. Shelled North Atlantic prawns. These crustaceans are a rich source of protein and of iodine which is important in the formation of thyroid hormones. They contain copper, selenium and zinc, which are vital to the health of our cells and enzyme systems. However, they do contain considerable amounts of cholesterol. Certain foods, including shellfish such as prawns, contain substances which can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Food allergies can produce symptoms such as eczema, asthma, vomiting and diarrhoea.
