Sources of vitamin C. Dietary sources of vitamin C, including oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits and tangerines, and blackcurrant juice drink. Vitamin C is found in many fruits and vegetables, and plays a vital role in helping some of the body's enzymes to work. It is also needed for growth and maintenance of bones, teeth, gums and blood vessels. Deficiency of vitamin C, which is rare, leads to the disease scurvy, where small blood vessels continually leak blood and teeth fall out. Intake of vitamin C is thought by many to strengthen the body's immunity against the common cold.
