Saccharin sweetener. Polarised light micrograph of saccharin crystals. Saccharin is the familiar name for an artificial sweetener 2,3-Dihydro-3- oxobenzisosulphonazole or o-Sulphobenzimide. Saccharin has its widest use as a consumer-added sweetener in the form of tablets. It is also widely used in the food industry, particularly in drinks manufacture. Magnification x5 at 35mm size.
