Maize. Ears of maize, Zea mays, with their protective husks drawn back. This cereal is a good source of carbohydrate, dietary fibre, polyunsaturated oils, vitamin A and potassium. It can be eaten unprocessed or used to make flour. Its oils are also extracted for human consumption as part of products such as margarine. Maize is also used to make animal feed, alcohol, and is used to make synthetic materials. It is grown around the world in tropical and subtropical regions.
