A balanced diet is very important in maintaining good health. The body needs vitamins, minerals, protein, fats and carbohydrates to run smoothly. Vitamins and minerals are found in all fruit and vegetables in varying quantities. Protein and fat are abundant in meat, and carbohydrates are plentiful in grain (such as maize, upper right). White meat such as chicken contains less cholesterol than red meat, and hence carries a lower risk of artery disease.
