Food is frozen for storage purposes to prolong its life. Freezing prevents the reproduction of bacteria and fungi in the food. Most frozen food can be bought frozen and stored at home in a freezer. Freezers should be kept around -15 to -20 degrees Celsius to prevent or slow down spoilage. When cooking from frozen, time should be allowed for the food to defrost completely. Frozen food can usually be stored for several months.
