Food colourings. Polarised light micrograph (PLM) of crystals of the food colourings E104 (quinoline yellow) and E110 (sunset yellow). These chemicals may cause allergies in susceptible people, and both have been linked with hyperactivity in children. E110 may also cause vomiting, stomach upsets and skin rashes. Differential interference contrast. Magnification: x80 at 6x4.5cm size.
