Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a hooks and loops fastener. It is made of a nylon material manufactured in two separate pieces, one with a hooked surface (right) & the other with a smooth surface covered with loops (left). The loops are loosely woven strands in an otherwise tight weave. The hooks are loops woven into the fabric & then cut. When the two surfaces are brought together they form a strong bond. Magnification: x10 at 35mm size, x20 at 6x4.5 cm size. Full-colour. Reference: MICROCOSMOS, figure 9.9, page 179.
