Nylon 66 filaments. Polarised light micrograph of two nylon 66 filaments. The filaments have a smooth appearance, typical of synthetic fibres. Nylon 66 is a common type of nylon which is a synthetic polymer. It is ideal for textile fibres as it has the appearance of cotton and the lustre of silk. Other useful properties are its high tensile strength, it is quick drying and requires little or no ironing. This makes nylon especially useful for clothes. Magnification: x12.5 at 35mm size.
