Rayon fibre. Light micrograph of a cross-section through viscose (rayon) fibres. The fibres have a lobed cross-sectional shape. They have been dyed to show the outer skin (dark blue) and the inner core (light blue). Rayon fibres are made from chemically treated cellulose. They are used in the textile industry especially in the manufacture of clothing. Magnification: x100 at 35mm size.
