Penetrant testing of metallic alloy components. This is a form of non- destructive testing in which a red dye is smeared onto the component. Excess surface dye is then wiped off and a white developer applied. This draws the red dye out of any tiny surface cracks and holes, staining the developer and allowing identification of defective areas. The test is performed on non-porous materials, usually non- magnetic metals.
