Forensic science. A scientist using a computerised karyotype analysis system in forensic science. A karyotype is an analysis of the pairing of an individual's chromosomes. The computer (Cytoscan) uses image analysis techniques to identify and sort the different chromosomes automatically, and to display them on the screen. Karyotype evidence could be used to link a suspect with a scene of crime without resorting to DNA fingerprinting. Photographed at Lifecodes Corp., a commercial laboratory in New York State, USA.
