Lifting fingerprints. Scene of crime officer (SOCO) placing a developed fingerprint onto a transparent lift card. The SOCO is wearing latex gloves to prevent contamination of the evidence. When a print is found, it can be developed using dusting powder or fuming with different chemicals. The print is then lifted using adhesive tape or fingerprint lift tape, which has a very smooth adhesive surface. The tape is then placed onto a lift card. SOCOs provide scientific support to police forces. They establish what evidence is required from a crime scene and the best way to obtain it.
