Caption

Facial reconstruction. Image 2 of 7. Plaster casts of human skulls for facial reconstruction. A mould is made from a reassembled skull (bottom left) that requires identification. A plaster cast (centre) is produced from the mould. Pegs of different lengths are then placed on the cast (right) corresponding to the depth of the facial muscles. These act as a guide for reconstructing the face with modelling clay. The aim is to provide a likeness of the victim, which might allow them to be identified from missing persons records for example. See images H200/279 to H200/285 for a sequence of facial reconstruction.
