Hawking and Turok. Portrait of the physicists professor Stephen William Hawking (1942-2018) and professor Neil Turok (at right). Hawking is Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, England. Much of his research on general relativity was directed at gravitational anomalies, known as space-time singularities, associated with black holes and the "Big Bang". Turok is Professor of Mathematical Physics at Cambridge University. He researches the origins of the universe through cosmological observation and by using unified theories of high energy physics. These theories attempt to unite the fundamental forces of the universe. Photographed in 1998.
