Bardeen, Keldysh and Franz. Group portrait of the physicists (from left to right) John Bardeen (1908-1991), Mstislav Vsevolodovich Keldysh (1911-1978), and Walter Franz. Bardeen was the first person to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics twice, in 1956 and 1972. These were for his development of the transistor and his theory on superconduction respectively. Keldysh was a Russian physicist who worked extensively on the Soviet space program, and was the chief theoretician of cosmonautics during the 1960s.
