Four physicists having coffee round a table. From left to right they are: Walther Wilhelm Georg Bothe (1891-1957, German), Francis Henri Jean Siegfried Perrin (1901-1992, French), Hendrik Brugt Gerhard Casimir (1909-2000, Dutch) and Luis Walter Alvarez (1911-1988, American). Bothe shared the 1954 Nobel Prize for Physics with Max Born for work in particle physics. Alvarez won the 1968 Nobel Prize for Physics, also for work in particle physics. Casimir worked in quantum physics, and Perrin worked in nuclear physics.
