Chinese religious leaders, known as the three holy ones. Confucius (551-479 BC, lower left) founded the quasi-religious system of Confucianism. Gautama Buddha (c.563-483 BC, upper centre), from India, founded Buddhism. Lao Tse, who lived around the 4th or 6th centuries BC, founded Taoism.
