Aristotle. Artwork of a bust of the Ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle (384-322 BCE). His works covered a wide range of topics, including logic, politics, zoology, psychology, biology and physics. He believed the Earth was the centre of the universe, and that everything under the Moon was composed of four elements: fire, air, water and earth. Although his works represented the high point of many Greek sciences, they were taken at face value for almost two millennia, and hampered further research.
