Illustration of Camillo Agrippa instructing his pupils mathematically. Born in Milan, Agrippa was an architect, engineer, master of arms, and mathematician of the Renaissance. He is known for applying geometry to the theory and practice of armed combat. The illustration is the frontispiece of his ''Treatise on the Science of Arms with Philosophical Dialogue'' published in 1553.
