Caption

Pierre Curie (1859-1906), Nobel Prize-winning French physicist. Curie and his brother jointly discovered the piezoelectric effect in crystals in 1880. In 1895, he married Polish-French physicist Marie Sklodowska, with whom he researched the newly discovered phenomenon of radioactivity. They discovered two new elements (polonium and radium) and won the 1903 Nobel Prize for physics.
