Lewis Lindsay Dyche (1857-1915), US naturalist. Dyche studied at the University of Kansas, USA, and worked there for the rest of his career, becoming professor of zoology in 1890. He led expeditions to places throughout North America, including Mexico and Alaska, and also to Greenland and the Arctic. As a result of his work, by the end of the 19th century the University of Kansas had one of the largest collections of mammal specimens in the world. These were used in an exhibition at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago. Photographed on 8 November 1909. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries.
