Richard Gregory, Professor of Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol, stands in front of a model landscape used to train pilots. Richard Gregory is also Director of the Brain and Perception Laboratory, and has recently (1986) instigated the setting up of The Bristol Exploratory, of which he is Scientific Director and Chairman of the Trustees. The aim of The Exploratory is to stimulate an increase in understanding of scientific phenomena in children and adults alike through the use of provocative "hands-on" exhibits or "plores" - a word coined by the organisers to define a problem to be explored. Photographed in 1977.
