Klaus von Klitzing (b. 1943), German physicist. Von Klitzing received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of the Integer Quantum Hall Effect. This shows that under appropriate conditions the resistance offered by an electrical conductor is quantised (occurs in discrete units) rather than continuous.
